4th New Forest North (Eling) Sea Scouts - the place for outdoor adventure

3 Peaks Conquered

A team from the Group has just completed the 3 Peaks Challenge to raise funds for the new HQ.

It was a tough and demanding challenge but the 9 walkers and 2 dedicated drivers representing the 4th New Forest North (Eling) Sea Scouts group completed the Three Peaks challenge on the 4th July in 32 hours and it was declared a triumph!

Starting at the base of Ben Nevis in the pouring rain at 5.30pm, Henry Watts, John Pickering, Ross Crouch, Simon Harrison, Laura Bullock, Nia Crouch, Jilly Hurden, Claire Toman and Sarah Mclaren began the journey that would prove a fantastic adventure and would also raise much needed funds for the Aquativity building.

After encountering rain, sun, wind and even snow, the teams finally reached the top after a steep climb, taking in the beautiful views and being very grateful for some good walking boots! They made their way down as it started to get dark and after reaching the bottom they then headed off to the Lake District and their next peak.

Scafell Pike proved to be very different from Ben Nevis and was extremely steep and rocky. Passing many well wishers and hikers on the way they reached the top, which was extremely foggy. Stopping to take celebration photos they then made their way down the rocks and steps to the fields below and met up with their drivers Paul Bullock and Phil Rawdon who had endless energy, proved invaluable and helped sort the teams out. Paul even went to help a sheep that had been stuck in a trough about a kilometre down the road promoting the good Scout name.

Finally after having driven for hours and stopping for refreshment they began the final climb of Snowdon in Wales . They went up the miners’ track in the rain and the fog. It was even starting to get dark and yet both teams were extremely positive and were excited about reaching the final peak of the challenge. This had involved some very physical climbing. It was dark and very foggy at the top so that unfortunately the view was absent but no one cared as everyone had some warm soup and started the final descent.

They reached the bottom exhausted but satisfied.  A really great time for the course given the relative inexperience of the team. After reaching the campsite everyone fell asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillows, a much deserved rest!

We would like to thank everyone who took part and all of the people who sponsored and supported us. As soon as we have a total I will update the website and let you know what a fantastic job everyone involved has done. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Please keep supporting the building of the Aquativity Centre, it will benefit the community and provide a fantastic base for the Scout group.
